Cyberabad “Operation Smile” teams rescues 91 children

Cyberabad police has formed Operation Smile Teams in all the three zones under its jurisdiction with an aim to rescue children from child labour, begging, rag picking etc., runaway and vulnerable children. During the month of February & March-2019, as many as 91 (61 boys, 30 girls) children were rescued and of them 81 (51 boys, 30 girls) were sent to Shelter Home and the remaining children were handed over to their parents.

  • Rescued children from Begging 19 (10 boys, 09 girls), Child Labour 53 (36 boys, 17 girls), Rag-Picking 17 (14 boys, 3 girls), Missing 01 (1 boy), Child Marriage 01 (1 girl).
  • Out of the 91 rescued children, 49 (31 boys, 18 girls) belong to other states.
  •  12 cases were registered on the persons using children for labour. 
  • The children were presented before the Child Welfare Committee and sent to various Shelter Homes.
  • Children in the Shelter Homes are being sent to school.
  • The details of few important cases are as follows:
    • 20 children rescued from child labour: 

          Received credible information that some children were working along with their parents at Brick Kiln at Kacharam village, Shamshabad. On that information team members went to the spot, observe the location and took photos and videos of the children while they were working. On 22-02-2019 the smile team, she team member with help of DCPU Ranga Reddy went to the spot and rescued 20 children (06 boys, 14 girls)  from child labour all were under age of 14 years. They were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Ranga Reddy district and placed in a Shelter Home.  A case has been registered against the employer in Shamshabad Police Station.

  • 07 children rescued from child labour: 

          On credible information that some children were working along with their parents at Brick Kiln at Jukal village, Shamshabad. On that information team member went to the spot and observe the location and taken photos and videos of the children while they were working. On 19-03-2019 the Smile Team, She Team members with help of DCPU Ranga Reddy went to the spot and rescued 07 children ( 04 boys, 03 girls)  from child labour all were under age of 14 years. They were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Ranga Reddy district and placed in a Shelter Home.  A case has been registered against the employer in Shamshabad Police Station.

The teams search for vulnerable children aged below 14 years who are found on footpaths, traffic junctions, working in tea stalls, dhabas, near religious places, micro industries etc..  in Cyberabad Commissionerate.

          Cyberabad Police has launched a special What’sapp No.7901115474 for reporting on child labour. Citizens are requested to report on persons using children below 14 years as child labour in hotels, restaurants, dhabas, tea stalls etc. on this number or Dial 100 or send e-mail to “smileteamcyb@gmail.com”.  Stringent action will be taken against the offenders.  Using children below 14 years as labour is prohibited by law and carries punishment of imprisonment of upto three years. People can also report about any child found begging along with the address and the Smile Team will rescue the child and help in their rehabilitation.

Operation Aasra : (To rescue destitute from streets)

                    Apart from Operation Smile, Operation Aasra has been launched by Cyberabad Police on 20.03.19 people above 60 years who are found begging and who are in a helpless state are being rescued by Cyberabad Aasra Teams. They are sent for rehabilitation to the Anand Ashram run by the Prisons Department Telangana. Men destitute are sent to Chanchalguda and Women to charlapalli Anand Ashram. They are provided accommodation, food, recreation and education. Some of them who can work are provided work and earn income. The information on destitute found begging or in a helpless condition can be shared on what’sapp No: 7901115474 by people who want the destitute to be rescued. So far 21 people were rescued.
